During the Digital India Dialogues event held at IIIT Delhi, Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, revealed that he had a productive meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in India. The discussion revolved around the future of AI in India, as well as its potential drawbacks. Altman expressed his delight over the meeting, highlighting Prime Minister Modi's enthusiastic and thoughtful approach towards Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Altman conveyed his contentment with the meeting, describing it as excellent and enjoyable. He commended Modi for his enthusiasm and insightful perspectives on the advantages of AI. Altman also asked about India's early and enthusiastic adoption of ChatGPT, OpenAI's AI chatbot, to which Prime Minister provided compelling answers.

During the conversation, Altman and PM Modi discussed about the opportunities in India, as well as the need to regulate the downsides of AI. Altman shared that they discussed about India's prospects, the most necessary steps forward and about how and what regulations are required to prevent its negative use.

Talking about what government can do to embrace AI, Altman said, “The government should focus on finding how they can integrate this technology in other services. Hopefully, we all start to use Language-Learning Models (LLMs) to make government services way better.”

Altman says that India can play a big role at the upcoming G20 Summit by initiating a conversation about AI regulations.
